Diaper woes
My two year old is so proud of himself. He can take off his clothes and his diaper. Note my enthusiam. Really it's there. (NOT!) I'm so tired of cleaning up after his little escapades. His latest is in the crib- so then he pees all over his crib. Oh, there's been poop too. He can go on the potty "on demand" and really enjoys it- he just isn't "ready" to take the plunge (diapers are always wet....) Any advice (besides duct tape?!)
Oh dear. I've heard you should put his clothes on backwards (one piece clothing) so he can't remove them. It would probably frustrate him to no end though. But it might be worth a try! Dress him backwards and then play with him nonstop so he doesn't have a moment to contemplate stripping and maybe it'll break the habit. Good luck! PS If you only have two piece outfits, or you don't like the backward look , put a onesie on backward, maybe that will be enough.
What about plastic pants over the diaper. They fit kind of snug and are hard to get off.
He has a lot of footsie pjs and they have feet. I don't think that will work. He's too big for onsies. Plastic pants he can get easily take off. He did it again this am. GRRRRR....
Laura I feel your pain. My youngest child did this too. Eventually that is why he was potty trained. I never felt like he was ready and at age three he decided he wasn't going to, but he changed himself plenty. Several days in a row I had to clean poop and I lost it and Forced him to potty train. It wasn't fun, it wasn't easy, but it was well worth it! That being said, if this doesn't improve greatly by 2 and half, I think you have to make the plunge and just do it. In the meantime, first tell him your expectations, it is NOT his job, it is yours. Maybe try pull ups, not harder, but different. And duct tape isn't a terrible idea. UGH!
well, my daughter is seven months, so I'm not there yet, but my mom told me that my little sister was really hard to potty train, and she just started putting her in regular underwear, they REALLY don't like getting all wet, and will start using the potty to pee, pooping is a different story though, for her anyway, bu she made her clean them out herself, she didn't like that and pottytrained all the way, but she was almost three when mom did that. Hope this helps out a little, you might have to clean him up a little more, but it might work quicker than the pull-ups.
He just turned two last week. He's not ready to train. He does get the concept though and goes on "demand". His diapers are wet though the day though. It's especially difficult because he does this in his crib when he's supposedly "sleeping." He definitely is too young to train through the night. By two and a half he will be trained if this keeps up. I can't imagine 6 mo of this though.... This is the same child who at 11 mo was getting out of his car seat. He's a wild one!
My two and a half year old still has a lot of oonsie type shirts, that would work if you could find some to fit him.
I have been there done that with my son and the girls. What I did.. For the one piece footy jammers I would put a diaper pin (because they lock closed and their finger functions aren't advanced enough to work them) through the zipper and pin it to the fabric. I did the backwards Onsie. And I would actually duct tape the night time and nap time diapers if the other two weren't and option. I did a lot of one piece outfits and zippered clothing so that I could pin them closed. One of the girls stripped and had "IT" every where. I never thought I would get it of the rails of the crib.. Eww what a mess.. My niece is a year and a half. I warned my sister about the night/nap time stripping and she didn't believe me until she had to wash the crib and the walls down after niece decided to finger paint. EWWWW... She said she needs to buy stock in duct tape because it has become a diaper changing necessaty. LOL
They make onesies up to size 4T. I have seen them in K-mart/Wal-mart/Target. You could get some of those and add extra snaps if you needed to to help keep it on. My DS is about the same age as yours (1/9/02). He is pushing the potty thing a little more than I wanted too. But, of course I can't DIScourage it. I've also heard of people putting the clothes on backwards. Good luck!!!
How about the pull ups that don't come off. I got 4t onsies in Childrens place.
I'll look into those larger onsies. I've never seen them before. THe safety pin thing my dh mentioned. Is that safe? I'm worried he'll get it undone. He's a HOudini! Feona- What do you mean about pull ups that don't come off? Thanks!
Bobbie... Shane has that awful tendancy to take his diaper off and fingerpaint. We have considered Duct tape many times but I had declined the idea because it sounds like something CPS would be banging down my door about. I think we may have to resort to it if it continues. Thank God I'm not the only one!!!
He can get a backwards diaper off? He really IS Houdini! lol I'd give the diaper pins or duct tape a try. My boys didn't do that. With my oldest it was just constant accidents after he was trained because he couldn't be bothered to stop doing whatever he was doing to go use the bathroom. I did have a daycare girl that would take a poopy diaper off while she was supposed to be napping. Thankfully that only lasted a couple weeks. Good luck, Laura. Hugs!
I mean the pampers or huggies pull ups without the velcro.
I don't think duct tape would be bad, just make certain it doesn't touch their skin, that would hurt. I love duct tape..you can anything with it!
I think I'm with Crystal that CPS could be at my door if I tried duct tape. It may be my only resort though! He would definitely get the pullups off. I'm going to go to Target this week. This too shall pass....This too shall pass....
I think you can look online for the onsies at 4t. They are hard to find.

I don't think CPS would have a thing to say about you taping around the top of the childs diaper. I would hope they would have better things to do (although I doubt it). It is not abuse to keep your child out of his diaper. And him playing in his mess is unhealthy and can cause him to get ill. So which is the lesser of two evils. Taking a roll of duct tape and wrapping it around the Velcro tabs or getting upset every morning you have to sanitize his room after his morning art session. Besides it is not your fault that the diaper companies haven't figured out a way to prevent this from happening. And my kids do not remember even being in diapers forget the measures we took to keep them in them. And the diaper pins have a latch that keeps the pin from being easily open. Unless he has really good fine motor skills, which he shouldn't at that age, the chances of him opening them are slim to none. Heck I know grown women that can't operate a diaper pin. Do what you need to do to to save your sanity.
Bobbie, I love your way of thinking!! And Shane has been known to get the poop in every possible place, including his mouth. How awful, we keep saying we're going to tell his girlfriends one day!! I am always dumbfounded by his not getting sick from it. I think the Duct tape wins!!
