When to expect period after baby
Here is probably a pretty silly question (not that I am anxiously waiting it), but when should my period return back to normal after a baby? I had what I thought was one when she was about 8 months old (about 2 months ago), but now it has been almost 2 months and nothing. Does it take awhile for it to regulate? I have been feeling that yucky bloated feeling all month and keep expecting it but it just doesn't come. I am still breastfeeding and my periods weren't regular to begin with (I was on the depo shot for about 4 years and didn't have a period and then only had 2 before I got pregnant). By the way, I wouldn't recommend the shot--it took a year to get pregnant! Thanks for any input.
Are you breastfeeding? Because that can delay your body in menstruation. Pre birth control and bottle, I believe this mechanism is what prevented a mom from becoming pregnant again too soon. I cannot remember how long it was for me.
When I breast fed. I didn't have a period until 2 months after I stopped feeding all three times. I think everyone is different though. My sister had her period the whole time she breast fed. And I have a friend that got hers back while still breast feeding after a little break of four months with out it.
I breastfed my daughter and my period came back when she was about 2 or 3 months old. I'm pretty regular though, they have been every 28-29 days. But like Bobbie said, everyone is different. There are moms in my mom's club that have gotten their period back after only one month and some that didn't get it for up to 5 or 6 months and others that didn't have one the whole time they were breastfeeding.
I breastfed for a year with both boys and got my period at about 7-8 months after they were born, but it took a few months to get regular again. I remember thinking I was pregnant every month...yikes!
I breastfed both of mine for about 6-7 months and both times my period came back at 4 months. After the second one, my period was weird for a while, but eventually it settled back down into its normal schedule.
I breastfeed, and I just got mine a couple weeks ago, 5 months after delivery. It was about the same for my last two, also.
i got mine after breastfeeding her for 10 months. Doctor said it was due to hormonal change and said it could be awhile brefore i had another. but next month i had one again. thinking i was back on schedule i planned for the next one but then i had another one 1 week after i just finshed my cycle. i got nervous and asked my doc and she said it was due to missing some feedings and some stress. but not to worry. so if u have one and then dont for a while it is normal for a breastfeeding mom. Dont worry! i know it is a pain in the butt but it will get back to normal soon! 1) so have u missed any feedings? or have changed ur childs schedule? 2) r u stress out about work or something going on in ur life? !!! 3 !!! also if u try getting back on the pill too early u may dry out ur milk! also that will trick ur body in to thinking that u r ready to go back to ur cycles! so that may trigger u to start again!
I got my first one when they were about 3 months old and then would skip a few months adn it was not regular at all. But you can still get pregnant. I only had two periods and got preg when my 2nd was 6months old.
Everyone is totally different so times will vary. I've heard some people go for over a year if BF. Personally, I BF and with all 4 babies, got my period 6 weeks after the baby was born. The dr said I was very furtile which is why it came back so quickly.
Thanks--I guess there is really no way to tell when to expect it, then! I don't mind a bit, but it is a little hard sometimes wondering if there is the pregnancy possibility. I am sure it won't be long before all is staightened out again since she is already almost 10 months old.
