Roseola?
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced this illness. DS (13mo.) just broke out in a rash of bumps that look like insect bites all over his chest and back after having a fever for three days. The DR. said that it is probably Roseola. We don't have an appointment until friday. He seems okay and cheerful.Last night he was up restless and crying and trying to tease and play, refusing to sleep and had a little gas and upset tummy. I read a couple of sites about Roseola and it seems like that's what's going on. What I'm wondering is if anyone's child passed this on to other family members or had a reoccuring case. Also , it's probably another topic for discussion, but last night he was really acting out and DH and I were trying to get some sleep. What he does is, cries to be nursed and then once he's nursing he bats me in the face with his hand. I say "no!" and he laughs and does it again. I put him down and he walks up to me and does it again. I know he didn't feel good but I disciplined him just as I would ordinarily do (we're trying Love and Logic) and put him in time out .Then let him CIO until I couldn't take it anymore. Is it wrong to discipline when they're sick? I don't want to give him the wrong idea that being sick gives you the right to be a royal pain in the ***. -don't want to be a meanie -thanks
One of my sons had Roseola when he was around 2 years old. He had been sickish and feverish, but nothing serious. After the fever was gone and he appeared to be fine, I discovered a rash on his neck. When I examined him further, I saw flat pink spots on his chest and back also. It all disappeared in a few hours, so I was confused. :-) Some time later a doctor explained it to me. You can read even more about it here MayoClinic.com, if you're interested. No one else in the family had any noticeable symptoms after that, and it has never reoccurred that I know of. It can be sooo mild that no one detects it, though. I agree that children should be disciplined while they're sick, unless they are extremely ill. Of course, when they are extremely ill, they're usually lethargic and not teasing, playing, laughing, hitting or even walking around. :-)
