Where can I find the safe medications list.....
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Where can I find the safe medications list.....
...or at least the list of things that have been recalled with regard to OTC meds for children? I still have everything in my cabinet and Natalie is pretty stuffy. If I remember correctly, almost everything was "banned", no? It's a major PITB because I don't think this stuff is unsafe, but I still would like to see the list again and then decide for myself. If anyone has a link to it, I would appreciate it!
Don't know, but as far as "stuffy" is concerned, anything with phenylephrine or pseudo-ephedrine should be okay. The second one was not banned, it's just harder to get - you have to get it from the counter and sign a log book. I've stopped giving my kids OTC stuff for "stuffy" I give them Rynatan which you need a scrip for. Hope she feels better. Randy had a 103.5 fever today, so I'm sure no school for him tomorrow. Ame

Thanks ladies! Psuedophedrine keeps Natalie awake for hours and hours, so we stopped using that as an infant. It works so well for the stuffiness, but can't deal with the awake part. I was thinking that the phenyl- had been banned so thanks for the list! I do have some of that. I'm honestly not sure if it's not just allergies. Last year she started in with allergies in January. She seems to feel fine, just congested, so who knows!
Okay I just looked through the list and read the attached article for the first link that Dawn gave. So over 2 are supposed to be fine anyway? The only one of these that we have is the Tylenol Concentrated Infant Drops that we still were using, simply because I never could find the dosing for DD on the Children's drops anywhere. It's listed on the Infant drops so that's why we stuck with it. The article also mentions problems with antihistamines, but none are on the withdrawn list. (ex, Benadryl). I'm a tad confused!
Yes, most of the "problems" with otc meds were for kids under two. Only infant meds were recalled. If your doc's office takes calls, call and ask what you can use. Rynatan that we use is Phenyl. Ame
