Cold and Allergy Question
One thing I am confused about. DS gets colds alot because he is nursery school. Do you keep giving the child the allergy medicine such as claritin even if child has a cold?
I was under the impression that if he's taking it regularly anyway, he should keep taking it, and it *should* help with some of the symptoms. Have you talked to his ped? Also, is he taking a child's mutli vitamin and/or some chewable vitamin C every day?
I give my DS Claritin daily, regardless if he's sick or not. I must say that the past several winters have been very rough for DS healthwise. Repeated colds, viruses, ear infections, walking pneumonia and then his asthma attack last year that landed him in the hospital. Since seeing an allergist, pinpointing his allergens and taking precautions (HEPA air cleaner, Claritin, Asthma maintenance meds) he has been healthy. Only slight colds. *Knock on wood*
I talked to the doctor and he said he could take the Claritin every day even if he is sick. You just make sure there is not anti-histimine in any other medication he is taking. I don't really give him cold medicine so that shouldn't be a problem anyway. If I wanted to give him a cold medicine I just ask the pharmacist what he can take with Claritin. So far no diarrea... But ds is sick with another cold. That nursery school is disease of the week club. Third illness this year. Last time we were all sick for a month. DS wouldn't chew any vitamin C unless it tasted like a gummy bear. I wonder if I can get a gummy bear vitamin c. He gets a liquid vitamin in his apple juice.
Feona, there are gummy bear vitimins. You can get them at Wal-mart and several other stores.
The health food stores have gummy bear vitamins too, but they are expensive.
Thanks. I found them at Drugstore.com. Now I don't have to go out in the snow to get them.
