What is a healthy baby scrotum SUPPOSED to feel like?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2003: What is a healthy baby scrotum SUPPOSED to feel like?

Ok , now can anyone help me out here?
My son will be a year old in a week . When he was born he had a hydroseal in his scrotum , the doctor said it would heal and it did many months ago . Tonight he was having a warm bath and we're doing scrub-a-dub dub and I felt a hard lump in the left testicle . I had my husband feel it and he said,"It's a nut !" I don't know why it would be on one side. There doesn't seem to be anything on the internet about this specific situation, or about the normal development of baby's testicles. Someone out there must have an idea. Thanks

My oldest had a hydroseal, which eventually went away. Obviously, you need to ask the pediatrician about this, and I would, if necessary, make a special visit to the pediatrician who has known him since birth so that he is seen by someone who knows him before you move. It's been so long since my boys were little boys I can't remember, but I would be concerned about a "hard lump". It is certainly worth a doctor visit for reassurance if nothing else.

Oh, and did you search on hydroseals specifically, to see if they do sometimes result in a hard lump?

Of course any hard lump would be a cause for concern for any parent, but if you roll the mass between your thumb and index finger and it should almost spongy if it is hard or solid then you should consult your doctor or if any questions arise during the exam. (I let my boyfriend post this, because I had read him the post. He's an EMT, and could answer this better than I.)
