Are Power Puff Girls Appropriate?
I know nothing about them, but they seem rather violent, always kicking and punching... (From what I've seen of brief promo clips on non Power Puff Girls videos, and pics I've seen of them on backpacks and other merchandise always seem to have them in a fighting pose) Does anyone have an opinion about them? I've read Amazon reviews that they they have more violence in them than the movie 'First Blood'. I also read that they beat people up who don't even deserve it. So what's everyone's take on this? For those who have who children watch it, did you notice any change in their behavior? TIA!
I've only seen seconds at a time of this show. Way too much "attitude" going on for my taste. DD is not allowed to watch it. She's only 5, but still many of her age friends are very much into it. But to clue you in on how strict we are w/ children's tv, we don't watch Sponge Bob either, no comercial TV programs and she is just now getting old enough to watch several of the Disney Movies. Some I still don't let her watch. We discuss what was done wrong and what could have been done when we do watch shows that have a bit more "sharp togue" language going on, or braty behavior.
I don't like the Power puff girls and my girls do not watch them. BUT I will tell you that your child will learn everything about them from the kids in school. Kids use to play cops and robbers. Well they are playing Power Puff Girls on the play ground. The other girls that are watching them have blow by blow plays about the show they watched the night before. So although I don't let them watch the show and I don't buy the items they still are suffering the effects of the program.
I used to let DS watch PPG, but he started acting out, so we quit. For a long time he would get mad about it, but, now he doesnt even flinch.. when it comes on, he turns the channel.
Well, there's one thing we're missing since we just have cheap cable. My kids never got into Power Puff Girls.
My youngest is too young to even be interested and the older two don't watch them.
Kaitlyn is too young to understand TV but she does like to stare at the tv so I put on PBS for her (Barney,Clifford etc..) But I would never not let her watch Powerpuff Girls, Spongebob etc. To me its no big deal and I dont want to shelter her and start a cycle of leaving her unprepared for the "real" world. We can watch those things together and i'll explain to her what they are doing wrong and the right way to do things. I grew up with tons of violent cartoons and they never affected me, or the rest of my siblings. JMO
I'm personally not a fan of the PPGs. I don't like the vast majority of the shows on Cartoon Network actually. For a while my boys expressed an interest in watching PPGs, but when I saw how violent they were I put a stop to it.
