Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr at DD!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr at DD!

This morning while in the shower I noticed the 33.8 oz. pump bottle of Paul Mitchell Awapuhi shampoo that I had *just* refilled last week is EMPTY! Recently I've allowed DD (9) to take showers unsupervised because I thought she had outgrown doing stuff like this. Apparently not. In the past she has been known to play with soaps, lotions, etc. ARGH! Fortunately, I didn't pay any money for this shampoo, because my very best friend is a hairstylist and happened to give me a gallon of it, BUT that's besides the point. DD is going to pay for a new bottle out of her allowance money. She's going to be shocked when she finds out how much it costs, but hopefully, she will learn a valuable lesson!

My 10 year old ds is just starting to grow out of this phase, Trina, so I hear you! Shampoos, conditioners, the girls' hair stuff, dishwashing detergent were always his targets. I did the same as you will do with B to make him pay for the items he wasted. He is finally understanding my point on wasting such things. He was always making "experiments"!
Remember, this too shall pass. When she starts to use her own money to buy herself special products that she likes she will appreciate the value of them. You might also have her buy her own shampoo or you can purchase them. Keep them in a special container, in the shower, just for her. She may take pride in them and will use them with more "respect" :)
Until you feel comfortable leaving products in the shower with her I have done this: I would fill one of the plastic syringes given with meds and draw out the right amount of shampoo and conditioner for ds to use. It worked like a charm. Good luck!

Interesting....*I* have to keep telling my 11 year old DD to use MORE shampoo and conditioner....FILL the palm of your hand I keep saying...use a HALF DOLLAR size amount, not a dime!!!

I have a 9 yr old potion maker too!!!!!! I've given up and buy him suave shampoo and conditioner really cheap when on sale and with coupons and he is not allowed to use anything else. They do grow out of it.

OMGosh, Trina - I'm sitting here wondering *what* she did with nearly 34 oz. of product! LOL I think making her pay for replacemeng (even though YOU didn't pay for it) is a great learning tool.

Ugh! My little boy (5) recently emptied an ENTIRE bottle of expensive facewash in the shower. As far as I can tell, he basically just squirted it out and let it go down the drain.

I am so sorry, but with a 9 yr old DD myself, I just had to laugh since it wasn't me THIS TIME! Sometimes I just spin with questions to the things my kids get in to. Esp my DD since I think she is now old enough to "know better" HA! Guess I should be old enough to "know better" with a 9 yr old.
