Just dropped DD off for SUMMER CAMP!!!!!
Today is DD's first day of her very first summer camp. I'm am more excited than she is. It is a YMCA camp thru the public schools. Such a great deal. $80/wk and the hours are 6:30a-6p. You don't have to drop off that early, we went at 8:30. They have swimming 3x a week, a field trip each week, playing at the park, crafts, stories, games, lunch provided, songs, reading, and tons of other fun stuff. It runs for 9 wks and you get to pick and choose which weeks you attend without having to pay for missed weeks. Here are the field trips: Lithia Springs (swiming park at a local spring), zoo, chucky cheese, ice skating, Wikee Wachee Springs (water park/slides), Ft Desota beach park, Arabian knights in Orlando Doesn't this sound oh so fun?
That does sound like a lot of fun. What age do they start the YMCA camps?
Sounds like quite a deal and convenient as well. How do you think Angel will do since she's used to being home with you? This may be the perfect way to transition into a school schedule. WOW, free time for you! Our Park & Rec. department has similar programs but with my DK's severe food allergies and DS's asthma I'm not comfortable with it as of yet. At least not for whole day programs. I signed both up for swimming lessons (3 weeks, M-F, 30 min. classes) and DS for basketball camp (4 half days). However, school doesn't get out until June 20th so we have a ways to go yet.
I went to a Summer Camp VERY similar to the one you're describing, 9 weeks and about the same hours. I had A BLAST! Those are some of the best memories I have as a child!
Jenn, here it starts at age 5. We just made it in. Her bday was the beginning of May. Trina, I really do hope this will help w/ the transition. And I hope she really starts to learn some independance (like dressing and shoe tying along w/ assertiveness). It's 1PM now and I'm wondering how she is doing. The people incharge seem really nice and on top of things. DD was just fine when I left this morning after watching things for about 15 minutes. Semperspencer, I sure hope DD will feel the same way. I never went to camp, and always wanted to. I feel so lucky to have found this program, and found it so early in her summer life ahead.
Sounds like fun for her! We don't have any day camps around here. My girls are signed up for T-Ball for the summer. They also have swim lessons. I wish we had some sort of day camp though!
SHE LOVED IT and can't wait to go back tomorrow. I dropped her off just after 8am and picked her up at 5:10. She had no problems at all with the long day. Praying she will be sleepy in a few minutes
Lexi will be going to the same type of thing when school is out in a few weeks, glad she liked it! I hope Lexi finds it as fun as A has.
YEAH for Angel! OK Dana, now we'd like to hear about YOUR day. How did you spend your FREE time?? Were you able to enjoy it or did you not know what to do with yourself? LOL! The first time I had the house to myself without the kids I felt lost. However, it was short lived!
Sounds wonderful! Plus as a extra she sees friends or meets future friends right in the neighborhood! Don't forget to go for a walk or do something special for yourself while she is in camp!
Well, yesterday, MY first day of summer camp, I did: lunch for DH 2 loads of laundry unpacked from our long weekend trip cleaned the bathroom emptied/filled the dishwasher cleaned the cabinets mowed front and back yard (large) vacuumed w/ my robot vac showered after mowing got some office supplies for DH oh, and ate a QUIET lunch alone! Today, I am hosting our playgroups last day before summer break. Picking up sandwich tray and drinks. Then I guess back to cleaning when they leave. My biggest plan...go thru the boxes of "need to file" stuff and throw things out. Today, DD wasn't as excited about going. She was crying before I left . I'm sure she will change her mind after things get going. I think she was afraid today because they do swimming and she is still learning. She'll feel much better after she sees she is not the only one who can't swim.
Might be a little long for a 5 year old. Of course it might not be...
Feona, I too wonder about the length. When I picked her up yesterday (an hour before it ended) I asked her if it took me to long to get her. she told me "no, you can go home and get me later if you want" so we will see what happens today. I am still so excited for her. It is so slow around the house being the only child.
