Growing up....

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Growing up....

I know this is going to sound silly. BUT, Christopher is getting so big and I have been so sentimental about every little thing. So today, when he ran up to me, all proud and said "Mommy, I can say YELLOW! I don't say yey-yo anymore!", I almost cried. He sounds so grown up when he talks, and I must admit I thought it was adorable when he said yellow that way, or when he called his baby brother "Yuke" instead of "Luke". I am proud of him, but I feel like he is losing all of his baby characteristics...sigh

Awww! That's so sweet that he said that. It's so bittersweet watching them grow. I feel like I'm trying to hang on to every moment.

Doesn't it just melt your heart when they realize and are proud of their accomplishments? But - it is hard to let them grow up!

My youngest still lisps when she makes the /s/ sound. She's six so I know it's still ok, developmentally, but I'm sure she'll lose it soon. :( I've also noticed it is affecting how she sounds new words out so I might even have to teach her the correct way to make an /s/ sound.

It's so hard to watch their baby characteristics fade away but I find it a nice reminder that their not-so-attractive phases are also just as quickly passing.

Yeah, I thought it as cute, when Sarah said "tar" for car and "tookie" for cookie. Or when Emily called oranges, "orange-apples" instead of just oranges. Sarah also went through a short phase of calling owls "wowls". I just thought it was adorable and was over with far too quickly.

My daughter called letters "E O's". I am not sure at what point she stopped, but it sure was cute. My favorite memory of her was when she was 2. We were in the car and she was looking out, and she would say "mommy there are eo's on that building, mommy there are eo's on that sign, mommy there are eo's on that car", then after a great pause, she loudly exclaimed "Mommy there are EO'S everywhere"

Cute, Kaye! She must have been overwhelmed by all those letters!

Kaye- that's so cute!!! I love that Chris calls chicken nuggets, NAWGETS. It is hilarious. I make him say it over and over, just for my entertainment. LOL!
