A "different" Mothers Day card

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2003: A "different" Mothers Day card
By Ginnyk on Friday, May 9, 2003 - 07:14 pm:

I got this card from my middle son:

Mom, I know that raising me must have been difficult (me - yes, it certainly was!)

Dealing with the understandable jealousy of all the other moms ... Wow! I don't envy you! Even now, they must glare at you and snip and snipe behind your back. But what can you do?

Happy Mother's Day.

(me - this is the son who is married to my wonderful dil. One of the many reasons I love her is that she makes sure this son realizes that he is actually not the center of the universe. When I read this card I thought - yeah, that's Greg.

Boy, they don't write Mothers Day cards like they used to. Personally, I think I would prefer a little more hearts and flowers and a little less "reality". On the other hand, he did send me a Mothers Day card and a gift card for a book store - which is always welcome.)

I sent my mom a humorous one, saying "Happy Mother's Day from the sweetest, most wonderful (blah blah blah) daughter ever. Then you open it and it says "Whaddya mean you don't know anyone like that?!?! It's me!! Geez mom" (I paraphrase but that's the jist of it) I am working on something sweet and special for her, it will be late, but the card fits our family. We all have that kind of sense of humor. I almost bought the same card for my grandmom that I sent last year, before I realized it looked very familiar. It says " Happy Mother's day from your favorite grandchild!" inside it says "Don't worry. I won't tell the others" I really am her favorite, since I'm the oldest, and closest to her (long story, but I'm closer to her than her own kids), and everyone pretty much knows this. Odd family that I have!! LOL

My MIL and I aren't the greatest friends. We usually just get her a generalized card. Something like. Hope your day is filled with happiness....Happy Mothers Day. We don't ever get her a mushy one saying that she's the greatest most loving mom etc. I'm going to look for one like the one mentioned above lol....the most wonderful, sweetest blah blah blah.....ME!! lol

*The book store gift card was nice. :)

I always get my mom 2 cards for everything, a funny one and a sappy one. I make her read the sappy one first because she ALWAYS cries (we're kind of emotional!) then she can read the funny one to perk her back up. We're a funny little family! ;-)

I got Mom one about thanks for letting me store all the stuff I will never retrieve from your basement... My sister, brother and I have so much of our kidhood stuff in boxes and boxes (and I'm the youngest at 41)... It's such a museum to visit down there! LOL

ROFLOL, Janet. We also joke w/ my mom about storing the families stuff. Somehow, "WE" (all the kids) never have room in our house for these currently unneeded items, but we are certain that mom can handle storing them. Hmmm. Wonder how that works.
