Infant Carriers

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2003: Infant Carriers
By Tklinreston on Friday, April 18, 2003 - 02:49 pm:

My ds is now two months old. Since my last posting I've seen a little bit of improvement in terms of his crying, but, for the most part, he still hates being put down. Whenever he's awake, I am holding him 99% of the time. He seems very content and I'm enjoying this time together immensely. He's almost 13 lbs now and I'm in the market for an infant carrier. Since I'll be holding him most of the time I need to buy one that is durable, easy to use and most importantly, comfortable for my ds. Not having used one before, I wanted to get your suggestions. I heard Baby Bjorn was very good. Has anyone used it and is it worth the price or are the less expensive ones, such as, Snugli just as effective. Slings are just for very small infants, right? I would like a carrier which I can use now, while he still requires head support, but one that I can use later as well. Also, one that I can easily manage myself in public. I really appreciate your advice. Thanks!!!!

I used Baby Bjorn and loved it!! I bought 2 others from wal-mart and my back was hurting so bad. I like the fact that when the Chad would fall asleep I could undo the carrier, hold him close to me, and then transfer him to his bed. They are bit pricey, but worth every penny. My DH used it also all the time and he liked it. I would wear it to the stores, home, or basicallly everywhere I needed to go. The directions to use it are imprinted on the actual carrier, so that will help when you go to turn the baby into a foward position. I would recommend Baby Bjorn. HTH

I used my sling until my baby was 2, so know they aren't just for infants. They do take some getting used to though. I say when it comes to carriers or slings, spend some money, go for a big name brand as they are usually worth it!

I have 3 kids but haven't had the need for a carrier like that. Though I will keep Baby Bjorn in mind if I have another baby and need a carrier. I have heard nothing but good about it from everyone I know that has one.

LOVED my Baby Bjorn!! Worth every penny! It was a God send when DD was a velcro baby and I had to keep up with DS, who was a toddler at the time. I second Jenn's recommendation. :)

Well.. I'm convinced. Baby Bjorn it is. It is so great that we have a forum such as this where you can get instant feedback from other loving and caring moms. Thanks so much guys!

I had Snuglis for my twins, and I think they were used 3 times. I never liked them that much, and the kids didn't seem to either. I hope you have better luck with the Baby Bjorn. :)

I have to say I wore my bjorn DAILY for several hours lol I LOVED it and so did she :)

It's worth every dime imho :)

I used a Snugli from the time my kids were newborns up until they were able sit unassisted. I loved it and so did they. I stopped using mine a few weeks ago and am missing it already. I never used the Baby Bjorn, but I'd say any one you get will be worth it. :)

I used the baby bjorn and liked it. When the baby gets over x amount of pounds your back breaks though. I can't remember how many pounds....

I have a couple of questions re the Baby Bjorn.
(1) Is it easy to manage by yourself in public?
(2) In the summer, while outside, did you have problems with the baby overheating? The carriers look pretty thick in material to me.

Thanks

I only used the carrier at the supermarket. My back is very sensitive though. I don't think the baby gets too hot in the Baby Bjorn if he/she is just in a onsie.

The Baby Bjorn is very easy. Practice one or more times with a baby bear then the baby. It is very easy. Directions are printed on the inside of the carrier so you can't forget how to do it. Really a very good product but
expensive.

You can use it in public, even to nurse. It was so easy to use. I used mine in the summer to go everywhere. I would put Jessica in the stroller and Chad would be on me or DH. I never had any problems with him being hot or over heated.

I bought it, guys. Thanks so much for your advice. I believe they updated it and made it even more user friendly. It's great. He seems a little bit fussy in it still but I'm sure he'll get used to it.

He will get used to it - just keep putting him in it and soon he will love it :)
