Great day yesterday!
Yesterday I took DD to the hospital for her tour before surgery. We had such a great time! EVERYONE was oh so nice. Better yet, we were the only family so DD got all the attention! They had a big puppet on the admitting bed. She had her special snuggle toy w/ her. Along w/ that were all the things that will be used w/ DD. DD got to do the real pressure cuff on the puppet. She got to roll the bed from waiting room to prep room. Then she got to play w/ the mask they use to administer the "sleepy medicine" and give it to the puppet. She also got to tape the IV to the doll. Once our doll was "asleep" we actually roller her into the surgical area. You are not suppose to see the OR due to dress and such, but one of the drs on the floor, picked DD up and carried her into the OR. They turned on the big lights and everything! I think I was having more fun that DD. After that we went to the "wake up room". There were some nurses in the room who even had a monitor turned on. So DD got to put a thingy on her finger and watch the monitor show her stats. The nurse even said she would be there on Thurs and try to get DD as her patient . Oh, and while in the OR area, DD was given a "breathing mask" that she loved so much. Usually they only get that after the surgery. so DD will now have two. One extra to share while playing Dr LOL. After seeing the recovery room, we rolled the bed back to the waiting room where she gets her popsicles after surgery. Then we given GREAT cookies and juice. Mom liked that too! They spent close to 2 hours with us going over everything and answering all my questions. I felt great and at ease after this. I could barely get DD out of there. She said she didn't want to leave and was ready for the surgery! So Thursday should be really easy getting her there. She might change her mind afterwards LOL. And then when I got home I checked the mail. I got our notice for Kindergarten. Our county is trying something new where you get to choose the school you attend. However, you had to give them 5 choices. I've been on pins and needles hoping for our first choice. WE GOT IT! So I was really feeling good then! And to top it off, DH and I had some great alone time, thanks to DD saying I could have some "Daddy time" while she watched PBS. And DH even said "lets go out to eat!" YEAH!!!! So, all in all, it was a fabulous day.
Awww sounds wonderful that she is ready for her hospital visit. I hope all goes well when she is there for the actually procedure. I'm glad you had such a wonderful day.
That is so great! I don't think our hospitals here do all that!
That is really cool! I don't think that our hospitals do that either. Sounds like it's just as much of a calming experience for the parents as it is for the kids. I know it would be for me. Good luck to your daughter on Thursday.
When my DS had his out at age 3, he was given a tour, etc., but nothing like what your DD had today. I think that's a wonderful thing to do for kids to help allay their fears. Good luck on Thursday.
That is wonderful Dana!! Goodluck on Thursday, sounds like she is ready
