Question about preteen daughter

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Question about preteen daughter
By Anonymous on Sunday, July 22, 2007 - 12:32 pm:

My dd is 10yo and is experiencing some swelling in one of her breasts. I'm fairly certain it's just her body changing and developing some "buds" but I'm a bit concerned since it's only on one of her breasts and she's says it's a little sore. I'd hate to take her into the doctor just to have the doc look at me like "Didn't you go through this at her age?". On the other hand, I don't want to ignore it if it could be some type of inflammation or infection. Did any of your dds develop on one side before the other or is the lack of symmetry something I should be concerned about?

Going anon to protect her privacy.:)

I remember this happening to both of my daughters - at the doctor's appointments, he checked and said it was normal. However, it's never a bad idea to have her pediatrician check it out - I think you'll feel better about it.

BTW, both daughters' bodies ended up quite normal. :)

Totally normal for one side to start before the other. It can sometimes take months for the second side to start.

It's happened with all 6 of my girls. Totally normal, but watching them hurt sure isn't nice.

Oldest DD (soon to be 18) was just talking about this happening yesterday, about how she thought she had hurt herself because her breast hurt on one side but it had turned out to be breast growth. One of my girls has breast at 10 and the other has buds.. And they both have/are complaining about breast tenderness..

I think if you are concerned you should get in to see the ped. Tenderness is normal but if you are worried have her checked out just to be sure.
