Will be having my ultrasound this Friday!!! WOOHOO
I'm going in for a ultrasound in less than 48 hours!!! I'm so excited to finally see this baby. I've had lots of ultrasounds with my other babies but this will be my first and maybe my only peek at this one. For those of you who predicted the gender, and I think I got about 50/50 boy verses girl, I will be sure to let you know what we see. I will be 17 weeks at the time of the ultrasound and I'm a little concerned that they won't be able to tell. I've looked up online and found that a lot of women found out at 17 weeks so I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones I currently have a 6 year old son and a 3 year old son so I'm thinking pink this time If it's a boy, it might take me a bit to come to terms with , but I will love the baby regaurdless and concider myself lucky I will let you all know soon... Mara
How exciting! Babies are so much fun. I was 16 weeks and we were able to determine the sex. Also, on our local news today, there was a thingy about a website called boyorgirl.com. They tested it on 7 different people, and it predicted right every time! Might be fun to check out just for fun. Supposedly it is 92% accurate. Also another fun one is to take a needle and thread it. Turn your wrist right side up. Hold the needle just above your wrist very steadily. The needle will go back and forth for a boy, and in a circle for a girl. It will start with your first child, and go from there. I have three kids and so far my needle and thread test has been right on! It shows that I will have 4 kids (which is what I want!) and that my next one will be a girl. (whenever that will be). Just some fun stuff to try. Have fun at the ultrasound!
Mara, did you ever do the carnation thing?! I am dying for every pregnant woman I know to try it. I want to see how many times it is right.
BTW, 17 weeks was my first ultrasound. The only reason I had it then was b/c the OB suspected twins, and was right! I didn't find out the sex until a few weeks later, but thats only b/c the OB wasn't looking for sex organs at 17 weeks, he was making sure the twins weren't conjoined or anything! Good luck!!!
Mommyathome, I went to that website and they have a credit card charge and since I have'nt got a credit card I could'nt do it. Palmbchprincess, I never had a chance to do the carnation thing, actually I forgot about it I still might do it though Only 1 more day to go!! Mara
How exciting!! I had USs with DS but not with DD. That particular OB/GYN office didn't do them unless they suspected problems. I don't have any pics of her in utero. We didn't want to know the gender of either one. It was a surprise at each birth.
Mara you can usually find Chinese birth charts to predict sex. Search for them and you should find one. They've been used forever. BTW Mommyathome, I don't understand you needle thing. I've heard of doing it over your belly, but to predict how many kids you will have, does it stop moving between kids? Like if you are going to have two girls how do you know it's two and not just one?
Palmbchprincess, it will go for along time if it's two in a row. Same thing as with the belly, but this one supposedly works over the wrist, even if your not prego. It works for me and all of my friends !! hehe The needle will stop moving when the number of kids you will have is up! Of course it's just for fun ;)
I just did one of those Chinese birth charts a few weeks ago and it was wrong for both kids. LOL! I can't remember where I stumbled across it.
It was wrong for me but then again it doesn't account for multiples. They are rare in China, so I guess way back when they made the charts, they didn't figure on it. And I'm gonna try the needle and thread thing.
The Chinese Chart was wrong for 2 out of three of my kids. But the needle and thread thing worked-or at least partially worked. It said I would have two boys followed by two girls. To the best of my knowledge we are stopping at two boys and one girl. I am looking forward to your next big post, Mara!
Joan did you go what did you find out is all OK with the newest addition coming into your family? Please let us know.
Yes all is fine, the baby looked fine.......BUT....UUUGGG they could'nt tell the gender!!! She said she got a good look between the legs but just could'nt tell for sure, so she told me nothing. Hopefully, I'll get another one. Did this happen to any of you with your pregnancies? If it did what did you end up having? Just trying to get an edge. I was'nt even given a % either way. So I sit and wonder. Mara
Mara, My mom went through that with my sister, they couldn't tell at any of her ultrasounds...I'm sorry you couldn't tell today. I'm telling you, go to the florist!!! It's not scientific, and I can't promise it will be right, but it was right for me and about 5 others I know personally. And I had twins, so I kept wondering why niether one of them would shrivel up. Finally the blue did one day before the pink, and I found out about Shane before I found out about Maddie. I guess that was the flowers way of telling me the 2nd baby was a girl. Either way, it's fun to do!
Aww, sorry they couldn't determine the sex. With one of my kids they couldn't tell at the first ultrasound, but the lady doing the ultrasound said to come back in two weeks at such and such a time and she would "sneak" us in and do a quick one to determine the sex. No charge, no charts nothing! But, we live in a small town and it was a small town hospital. It was great for us though, since our insurance only paid for 1 ultrasound. By the way....it ended up being a girl. She said that it's easier to determine the sex of a boy because it's right there poking out at you...and with a girl, they question it a little bit and are careful about jumping to conclusions before they have a better idea.
At my first US they told me that they thought it was a girl only because they didn't see the boy parts. They said, don't go painting the room pink or anything, but you usually can see boy parts at that week!! So they didn't actually see the girl parts, but didn't see boys either. I did end up having another US about 4 weeks before I was due and there they did see girl parts! So maybe since they did get a good look and didn't see boy parts, you might be having a girl too!! I will keep my fingers crossed for ya!!
With my first child, the doctor could not tell me the gender either. The umbilical cord was between the legs! It turned out to be a boy though! It was awful getting so excited about the ultrasound and then being let down by not finding out the gender! I know how you feel....
With my DD she kept turning over during the US....Like she *knew* what I wanted to see. SHe kept her legs closed (already then lady like) LOL! The Doc. said with the baby doing that, and closed legs, everyone that he has seen has all been girls, boys generally, have thier little legs wide open and don't care! LOL! I don't know if that was a joke to my part or what, But I *KNEW* I was having me a baby girl, even before the US. Just the way she moved around, and how i carried her, and I knew before the US with DS that he was a boy. Guess it's just 'Motherly Instinct".
With my frist dd they couldn't tell. With my other dd they could. This girl I know with her ds they told her it was a girl the hole time she was pregent and she had a boy.
They knew with Timmy right from the start. As someone above stated he was legs wide open playing with himself right in front of the camera.
Neither of my children would cooperate with the ultrasounds. We found out dd was a girl during a biophysical profile two weeks before she was born. We didn't know ds was a boy until he was born. BTW, the U/S techs kept saying that there was a good chance that ds was a girl because little boys like to hang it all out there for everyone to see and girls are more modest and ds would never let them see no matter what they did.
At my last US, I already knew it was a boy and a girl. The tech was looking at Shane and goes "Oh Lord!!! Your husband will be bragging about this boy! He'll never be teased in the locker room!" She thought he was very well endowed. She actually apologized for focusing on that for a minute, but it had me laughing. I think boys are a little more brazen about showing off in the womb. When I first found out Shane was a boy I was back in FL with a different doc. He wrote "family jewels" on the pic. I was here when wee saw Maddie. We could definatly see labia, so the tech typed "think pink" on the pic. Now that they are here, they both like to crawl around naked and show off!!! Getting a diaper on them can make you work up a sweat!
I should add that Shane's head was in Maddie's lap the whole pregnancy, which is why it took so long to find out her sex. I'd hate having someone's head in my lap for nine months!!! LOL
