How long should loose stools last???

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2003: How long should loose stools last???
By Beth on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 02:56 pm:

My dd is 2 and she has had loose stools off and on since about last wed. She also had a runny nose which now is gone. I am assuming that this is all from 2 year molars maybe. How long did it last for your kids? Or did your kids even have these symptoms? It not really like diahrrea but it appears to be hurting her now. She is all red today and I have been using diaper creme. I guess I just wanted to see what you all thought. I hate to take her to the doctor because she does not have a fever. Any advice appreciated. I will say one more thing she does eat a lot of fruit!

Has she been drinking a lot of juice or eating more fruit than usual lately? That always gave my kids loose stools if they over did fruit. Also, did she recently get over a stomach virus? My ped. said some kids are temporarily lactose intolerant after getting over a stomach bug. Happened to my son as a toddler. I cut back on milk for a few days and he was fine. I don't remember 2 yr. molars causing that, at least not for my kids. Hope her plumbing is back to normal soon!

My kids always had loose stools when they were teething, and particularly with molars. They would run low fevers and the diahrrea would last a week or more sometimes.
Fruit and/or fruit juice can cause that too. The diaper cream should help her skin. Try limiting the fruit and dairy for a few days.
