Ashley's surgery tomorrow...
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Ashley's surgery tomorrow...
Ashley is having surgery on her eye tomorrow morning at about 10:00am. Her right eye used to turn out really bad and she had surgery when she was 6. The Dr that did that one messed up and 3 months after her eye starting turning out real bad. So she had another surgery when she was 12 to fix it (We got a new Dr.) but when he got in there to do it he found that the muscle had came loose from her eye and was in 3 pieces so he reconstructed the muscle and reconnected it but could not straighten it completely. So we have to do one more (hopefully only one more) so it will be straight. She is so nervous. She sat in my lap and cried for a few minutes and went to her room so I went in to check on her and she huggeg me and cried some more. It is funny to see my 15 yr old that thinks she is grown up need her mom again. I haven't seen that in awhile. But she readily admits that she needs me right now. She hasn't let this bother her until tonight. It is so close and now she is getting scared. Please send good thoughts and prayers for to come through this safely and that this is the last time. TIA
I'll be sure to keep Ashley in my prayers tomorrow morning. Bless her heart, I hope she's able to sleep tonight. Let us know when you can how she's doing tomorrow, okay? Prayers that this will be the last one, too.
Thank you! I had to give her something to help her sleep cause she was too nervous to sleep. I will let you guys know how she is as soon as I can.
Will keep her in my prayers!
She is in my thoughts... Poor girl.. Hopes for internal peace for her and yourself...
Hopes and prayers that all goes well. Ame
Prayers here as well.
Thinking of Ashley. Let us know how everything went.
Thoughts and prayers for Ashley!
Update.. It went very good. You can't hardly even tell that it wasn't straight before. She is sleeping now and doing good.
Oh, good news, Latonya! That's so great. So glad it all went well and she's getting some rest. I can imagine you are so relieved it's over, too. Hugs.
How is she feeling today? I hope she's not in too much discomfort.
I missed this thread, sorry!!!! Latonya, my DS Jeff has had 5 surgeries on his eyes. Strabismus and esotropia (eyes turning in) run in my dad's side of the family - he had surgeries, both of my sisters had the conditions and surgeries and so did my sister's DS. Exotropia is when the eyes turn outward. My youngest sister has that as well. I know how it feels for your child to have to have eye surgery, and worse, how it feels to hear your child teased and see them humiliated because they have crossed eyes. Jeff's last surgery was when he was 10 (?). The eye docs have told us there is nothing more they can do, due to the amount of *cutting* and adjusting they've done on the eye muscles and the scarring that inevitably happens, so he does have a lazy eye, it's really only obvious when he's really tired. I hope this will be the last surgery for your DD, and I'm glad she's doing well!!!!!!!!
Thanks Karen! She will have to have one more in Dec. if I can get her in then. She had esotropia and so does my oldest ds but the dr that did her first surgery really messed it up so there isn't much muscle on one side to work with. They went in to the other muscle and moved it over and she said she can go to the bad one and adjust a little more next time. She is healing well. No pain meds today and she is staying with a friend so I guess she is feeling better. I am going to post before and after pics on the photo board. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts.
I must have been VERY lucky as a child. I had stabismus and esotropia but only needed one surgery in each eye. They were done when I was three and five. Though I don't remember the first I do remember pieces of the second surgery. My mom (having worked in the OR) had me so prepared that when they tried to put the mask on me to put me to sleep, I insisted on holding it for them. According to my mom, she practiced at home with me laying on the coffee table and using a butter container for a mask. Fingers crossed that all continues to go well. Kids can be so cruel with any differences
