I am READY to scrap!!
Moms View Message Board: Arts, Crafts, Gardening and Ideas: I am READY to scrap!!
...well, almost! I bought a scrapbooking kit, with a bunch of stuff to get me started. Plus I bought a set of 12 scissors, all different shapes, and some pens, and some different color paper squares. now I sat down with everything & realized that half of the stuff I have no idea what to do with it!!! It even has an instruction guide with lots of tips & ideas. There are some cutouts, and one that looks like a mat for pictures, but it's plain white, my guess would be that you take the plain white one with all the shapes cutout & trace them onto other colors of paper? Any suggestions?? Thanks!
It's going to take you about 20 layouts for you to discover your style. Have fun with it! For inspiration, I like to go to http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp. Some of the layouts are very detailed, but it's a great way just to get some ideas. Have fun!! Oh, and remember, the most important thing about scrapping IMO is the story behind the pictures. Write in your books the who, what, when, where, and why. Think about what it is you want people to know about your pictures when you are not there looking at the book with them. When you look back at old photos from your grandparents, what is it you want to know? Tell the story. Don't be critical of your handwriting. Just get the story told. You will be so glad you did!
I think you are right on what you want to do with your shape thing. To get started get a piece of paper and some photos and come up with a plan. It is easiest to get started when you know where you are going. I did a Christmas album the first year. I am visual, I literally draw rectangles on a piece of paper and then write what would be on each page. So my baby books would look like this...minus rectangles. cover title page pregancy info more pg info welcome/1st photo delievery details and so on. I do this for almost every album I do. There is a more precise way to do this, called power layouts, but that comes later. Good luck and enjoy! I need to schedule some cropping time!
I'm working on a scrapbook for my son's 21st birthday, which is in March. I've scanned lots of photos from the time he was born, and I'll be using those. Since scrapping can be expensive, I'm trying to get supplies a little at a time. I've had the scissor collection for several years now, so now I'm just going to start picking up the 12X12 pages I'd like to use.
Thanks for everyone's input! I am off this weekend, so I think I will get started!!! I'll keep you posted!
