Cut flowers from the Garden?

Moms View Message Board: Arts, Crafts, Gardening and Ideas: Cut flowers from the Garden?

I am not sure where I was supposed to put this but I am wanting to plant some flowers in my garden. I want some flowers that I can cut and bring inside and that have a long blooming season, any suggestion? It is a partial sun area.

If you have sun for half the day, zinnias and marigolds are easy to grow, and do very well as cut flowers. Gladiola are perennial bulbs, that are also wonderful for cut flowers. Roses are wonderful as cut flowers. Chrysanthemums are also perennials that will flower from mid summer through the autumn. They are great in vases.

Cosmos bloom all summer and are extremely easy to grow. They comes in all kinds of colors. My favorites are the seashell, sonata and sensation mix.

I have these daisy like flowers that come back every year , they grow like a bush.
I have them in a full sun area and They would do much better in partial sun (which I have none of)because they are wilted by the end of the day.
Anyway they bloom all year and are wonderful cut flowers , it is just pouring rain though right now out side so I will check the name later , I still have the marker by the plant.

Cosmos are great, plant from seed. They look sort of daisy-ish, in pink, white, blue, lavendar, and on their long narrow steps sort of float above the flowerbed like butterflies.

Personally, I love dahlias. In my climate (Philadelphia) they won't winter over and have to be dug up and the roots (sort of a dark thing like a skinny sweet potato) get replanted next summer. Once they start blooming they bloom for quite a while and are great cut flowers. The flowers come in all sizes, from silver dollar size to dinner plate size. The smaller the flower the more blooms you have and the more re-blooming you have.

Daisies! I've got a huge patch and they bloom forever. They also spread like crazy, so you can either increase your flowers or dig up plants in the spring and SHARE! I've got white ones at my desk right now, and I just love them--so happy looking! :)

Purple and white coneflowers, black-eyed susans, shasta daisies, carnations, roses, lilies - all are perennials. Have fun!

O.K , I went outside and read the marker for the daisy like flowers. They are called golden marguerite .

Hmmmm wish I could add to the list. I like carnations, easy to grow and smell great. Ohhh what the heck, I like them all!

I LOVE cosmos. Purple coneflowers are established in my flower garden so they always come back! I love them and already have a big clump of them growing!

Just watch out for the Golden Marguerite. I planted one bunch once summeer and in two seasons, they had taken over my garden. They are beautiful, but prolific unless controlled.
