Sewing Box

Dh is leaving for Brasil in 2 weeks to visit his family. I have never met or even really spoken to his mom(she doesn't speak English). I have decided to make her a Victorian style sewing box. I have made about 4 of them over the years. I got the idea out of a craft book years ago. They are so cheap to make, but take a lot of time. It's all cloth covered cardboard. It looks like a box, but when you take off the lid, the sides of the box all fall open.On each 'box side' there is padded cloth you can stick pins in.I make little pockets on the sides to stick in little sewing things. In the center of the box you make a little cloth covered stick coming out and you slip on a spool of thread and a thimble on top.I always go to the dollar store and buy new packets of needles and pins and needle threaders and bits of ribbon and tiny scissors and seam rippers, so you have everything you need for quick sewing jobs.. I wish I could somehow post a picture of how it turms out-it looks so incredible!-I am sure my description is really hard to understand!! fiona
Oh I would love to see this fiona, it sounds really nice!
I thnk I a going to make the lid into a pincushion as well! I will just add a few layers of batting between the fabric and the cardboard.. fiona Oh-and if my sister is over with her digital camera- I will take a picture and try to get it on here....
I would also like to see a picture of it. Sounds very neat.
