It is a new year!
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: It is a new year!
Okay well back to school! Here is our little update. My son officially qualified for the gifted program, not to my suprise, but his teachers were shocked. Just one more sign it was not a good fit for him. So after a couple of more conferences we decided that moving him to a new class was the best choice. So today he started with a new teacher. I know this was the right choice, but I am so nervous, it is so first day of school nerves and fears. I love his teacher's personality, she sounds like a good fit, time will tell. She is terribly unorganized, but I watched her greet each one of her kids and you could see that she loved them, and I like that. We have our ard meeting (iep meeting) one week from tomorrow. We will have to almost start over. He won't be eligible for inclusion services because he isn't in the inclusion class. So we will have to decide if less time is okay, or if he will have to be pulled for longer than he has been. We are redoing his math service (which he never needed), I think we will change his OT and speech times, oh and the GT teacher will be in there now. She really gets my son, so I am very pleased about that. Anyway, hopefully in a week I will be much better!
Kaye, that sounds great! Keep us updated.
Oh, it must feel great to be getting some positive news! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that this teacher is the perfect fit for your ds. Let us know how it goes at the ard meeting.
We made it through the first day. He seems okay with it. Actually he had all good things to say. I can see in him there is a little "missing the other class" going on. But really I think it is about the change. This teacher will really challenge that in him. They get new desks every monday..LOL. anyway, so far so good. I wonder how long I will feel this way, it is so unlike me!
