Grey area of ADHD-talked with dr..

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: Grey area of ADHD-talked with dr..

So on Wednesday I took my son in for a physical. He really didnt need one, but thought it was a good time to get him in and have a chat with the dr.
All in all, the dr remained pretty neutral about it all, I figured she would. I explained what has gone on his classroom, with the other kids, the teacher being overwhelemed etc.. The dr asked what I observed at home...She asked my son tons of questions...I kept telling the dr, I didnt know what the grey area was of ADHD...She didnt say much, really just listened to everything me and my son said...She said a couple of things, that a child can have ADD and not the hyperactivity part of it(I already knew that). She thought at this time, to let things be. She said let him start the 5th grade fresh and new, new teacher, different kids.. and go from there. She went to say if I was still having concerns(After starting school in the fall) , then by all means bring him back for a workup or writeup(Cant remember what words she used)and we would go from there.So I feel a little better that at least I talk to the dr about it..

Sounds like your doc isn't concerned it's a problem. Fourth and Fifth grades are really big transition years, also. There's a lot more responsibility for the kids and the teachers expect more. For some kids that aren't very organized, it's really hard to meet all those expectations. I'd be more concerned if you'd mentioned this to your ds's doc and she just said "Okay" and prescribed meds. Just keep an eye on him and see how he does during the summer and next year in school. Hopefully a new teacher will make all the difference. {{{{{Jackie}}}}}
