Straterra dosing
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: Straterra dosing
My ds was put on Straterra almost 2 weeks ago. The doc. said that it usually takes about 2 weeks to see results. Anyway, he is 7 years old and weighs 75 pounds. He was on 18mg for 4 days then 25mg after that. Is 25mg enough? I've seen on other boards where children are taking 50mg to 100mg and their children weigh less than my ds. For those of you who have kids on this, does that weight seem to fit the dose? I will ask the doc. when we go back, but am just trying to get some insight here. Thanks
My ds is 11, but he weighs about the same as yours. (He's a little guy!) He takes 40mg. 25mg seems low to me, but of course I'm not a doc! They actually started him at 60mg, with which he had too many side effects. He's doing really well on 40mg. Is he on other meds? That could affect it...
Every child is different. Some kids do great on a very low dose. Some need more. Robin is 10yo and weighs 75lbs, too, and he's on 50mg right now. His doc mentioned bumping that up to 75 this fall. Of course, Robin's ADHHHHHHHHD! ROFL How's your son doing on 25mg? Have you noticed a difference? Has he noticed a difference (although it's sometimes hard for a 7yo to verbalize something like that)? I'd really give it a little more time. My thought is less is better with meds. Good luck and {{{{{Hugs}}}}}. These med games are always hard.
Our dr has always started low and worked up on the dosage depending on how they were doing. Do you have another appointment within the next 2 weeks? Our meds are looked at and adjusted every month until we find the right dosage. My dd is on 20 mg and she is 7 and weighs 50lbs. But she is also on Adderall. My other 2 children tried Strattera and it didnt work for them. So be prepared in the future if it doesnt work. Good luck.
He is on no other meds. This is our first try at any meds. I've asked him and he just says that he feels fine. He is not hyper so I can't go by that as far as him being calmer. He does get more tired thoughout the day but other than that I've not noticed a lot of difference. His last 2 spelling tests at school he has done conciderable better on, so maybe that is a good sign. I will give it more time. I just hope that the doctor will give it more time too. We go back to see her in one more week. Thanks again!
