Great learning toy for ADHD children
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: Great learning toy for ADHD children
One of my friends whose child was diagnosed with ADHD many years ago told me about a wonderful toy to help ADHD kids in school. She bought her son the IQuest game. It's sold at Target and Wal-Mart and most department stores. Here's a link if you'd like to see exactly what I'm talking about: IQuest at Amazon.com It's about the size of a Gameboy. She swears by this thing. She said her 5th grade son went from failing to straight A's in no time after getting this game. You can purchase the cartridges for your child's grade level and different subjects, and this game teaches them the material and tests them on it in a FUN way, sort of like in a game format. There's also a cartridge to help them prepare for the SAT. My friend said that at Target she was able to get the exact cartridge for her son's particular textbook, though I'm not positive I understood her correctly. It's geared for kids ages 10 to 13 (grades 5th and 6th.) Made by LeapFrog, who makes other similar toys for other ages. She said her son absolutely *loves* studying now, whereas he used to despise it. I am definitely planning to get this for my DS, probably for Christmas. It's about $50 and the cartridges are about $15 each. Just thought I'd pass it on!
What a neat idea, Pam! I know it would appeal to my son because it looks like a PDA. I'll have to check it out some more. I don't know if we'd get it for him for Christmas, since we've already gotten a PS2 for the boys. Thanx!
Pam, I just copied your entire post and forwarded it on to my sister, Kathy. Her 12 y/o son is ADHD, ODD, NVLD and clinically depressed. They started him on Prozac a few months ago which has helped, but I think they have been chasing their tails with all the doctors they've been bounced to. Any time I hear/read of something that might benefit Eric, I pass it along to her.
SOLLLD! To the Mother of an ADHD child. I had wondered about these--guess we'll get one for Christmas and see how it works. Thanks!
Bubbles That is so funny that it is great for ADHD kids. I just gave one to my ADHD niece for Christmas hoping that it would help her learn and low and behold you are the sharer of good news that it does!! GREAT!! Hats off to Leap Frog! Ribbit..
