What to feed my 1 year old.
I work full time, as does my husband. Lately I have not been coming home till 7pm. Don't really feel like cooking and DH is STARVING! We've lately just been getting take out. But my 1 year old always wants what we are eating, but fast food (Chinese, Quiznos, etc..) can't be good for the baby. I've been just cooking him up some chicken and rice, it's been working so far, but I want to introduce new foods to him. He's beginning to be a pretty picky eater. Any suggestions for recipes, for baby only or for us all.
I love the crockpot, it allows you to have a healthy meal after a long day. There are so many recipes online, and may people here suggest the book Fix it and Forget it.
One more suggestion: Chicken breast on the george foreman grill(anything on this grill is simple), frozen veggies in microwavable bag..bagged salad etc.. Maybe you could prepare some stuff on Sunday, so it makes the evenings go a little more smooth.
Or, following up on Stori's post, when you do fix regular meals at home, make a little extra and freeze small portions to put in the microwave for your little guy.
My parents gave me a microwave in 1985, and it changed our eating lives (single working mom and three sons). I started doing all my cooking on Sunday, fixing 5 or 6 main dishes, and freezing them in serving portions to reheat in the microwave during the week. Add frozen veggies and a salad and we were good to go, and a lot healthier than hotdogs and beans and macaroni & cheese.
Great ideas, now are there any suggestions what to feed the little guy. With all the "first 5" commercials about not feeding children healthy foods now, will result in there preference of unhealthy foods later on. Do you have any actual recipes, specifically good (tasty)& healthy for a 1 year old? I'll try anything once, hopefully he will too! Thanks!
At that age I did alot of mashed black bean and cheese quesadillas, fresh fruits and veggies, i make a spinch pizza pie- use a frozen pizza crust and fill with spinach, ricotta, and mozzarella- easy and yummy. I make alot of turkey burgers or turkey meatloafs with shredded veggies, cottage cheese etc. Zucchini bread is a good one to sneak in veggies and it is yummy. Hope that helps- if you need more specific recipes let me know!
Those are pretty good, Thanks! I went out and bought a slow cooker on Monday and used it on Tuesday. It was great! Thank you Truestori!
