Organic food
Does anyone buy organic food? What are the pros and cons? I've been thinking about Bea's reply (see discussion; 4 year old losing hair) about it being environmental poisons. DH and I have started using vinegar for cleaning instead of all the chemical cleaners. Now I'm thinking of getting organic food, but I don't know much about it.
I buy organic or grow my own whenever possible. I have a list somewhere, and I will find it and post it if you'd like of the types of produce you should always buy organic if possible and why. I subscribe to several organic magazines. However, organic, all natural, also means expensive. I use vinegar for cleaning too. It does a great job on my wood floors (Thanks Bea!). There are some great all natural cleansers out there that I have used BUT they are ridiculously expensive. I just see it as you can be part of the solution or part of the problem.
ok, the magazine is missing but I found this list of produce high and low in pesticides. FOOD HIGH IN PESTICIDES Apples Bell peppers Celery Cherries Chile peppers Imported grapes Nectarines Peaches Pears Raspberries Strawberries Tomatoes FOOD LOW IN PESTICIDES Asparagus Avocados Bananas Blueberries Broccoli Brussels sprouts Cabbage Cauliflower Eggplants Grapefruit Kiwifruits Mangoes Okra Onions Papayas Pineapples Plums Radishes Watermelons hope this helps....
Yes, we buy a lot of organic food. It's pricey, that's the only draw back, I think. We also grow some veggies in our organic garden, but it goes pretty fast. We're lucky we have Whole Food Markets and Central Markets near us and have no trouble finding it.
