Support for the USA!

Moms View Message Board: The Fox Hole (War-Related Discussion): Sending In Reinforcements (Showing Support & Comfort, Lifting Spirits): Support for the USA!
By Mommyathome on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 - 06:37 pm:

For starters I want to say I am really scared about war probably starting this evening. Worried about EVERYTHING!! In no way do I want to downplay the seriousness of war.

But, I wanted to try and start a thread that is somewhat positive. I really get "pumped up" so to speak when there is someone on TV that is hyped up about the US troops going in and taking care of things. Maybe we could post our positive messages here and then when we're feeling down about the situation we can read the thread for some sort of comfort. So I will go first....

Good luck to all military families. I know we have a few on this board, and I think it's safe to say we all know troops that have been deployed at this time. I have confidence that the troops will get in there and get the job done right. They will kick some Iraqi buttock ;) US troops are heroes and there is no other place in the world that I would rather be right now than in the USA!

Mike got his orders to ship out Sunday with the 4th Infantry Division to Iraq. For those who don't know, Mike is my SIL, my DD, Amy (Semperspencer here at MV's) DH. He'll also be going along with Palmbchprincess's DH, as well.

I'd like to join in the tribute here to our American soldiers with an awesome image and a copy of a song that always gives me goosebumps:

Eagle and Twin Towers

God Bless The U.S.A.
by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Michael

Mike, I'm about as proud as a Moms can be of you, son. I know your courage and strength and love for Amy, Adrian, Michael, and your little baby on the way will carry you back safely home to us. If your Grandma were alive today, she'd be beaming with pride over the man you've become. You're about to join a war, to risk your life, to ensure safety and security for us all, and that makes you a hero in my eyes. Take care of yourself and know that we all love you so very much. I wish I could give you a great big hug and kiss right now as you head off to sea, but I'll save it for when you return.

Love,
Moms

My niece's husband got his orders Sunday and will be going to Kuwait. He also will be going into "harms way". My niece and their son and I are, of course, worried sick about him and praying for his safety and the safety of all the troops.

I have nothing but respect for the people who are serving this nation in our armed forces and other ways by following the orders given to them by our government.

I continue to believe that our government, in beginning this war on Iraq, is wrong and that it is in the short and long run deeply harmful to the United States, to our role as a nation that has not, in this century, been the aggressor in any war (other than our very brief venture into Grenada), and I believe that the price we will pay for this very wrong action, in lives, in moral fiber, in international relations, and to our domestic safety and economy will burden us and our children and our grandchildren.

Even so, I remain firm in my support for those service members and others who are being placed in danger because of our government's actions, and my prayers and support are constant for my niece's husband, for Mike, for Crystal's husband, and for all the other men and women in the U.S. armed forces (and their civilian support) who are presently or will be risking their lives to carry out their orders, and I do not for one moment fault them for carrying out those orders, at great risk to themselves.

I'm sitting here with tears and goose bumps. We are ALL going to be affected by this, some closer than others.

Prayers for all the sons/husbands/fathers/uncles/nephews/significant others....................

By Claire on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 08:15 am:

Pam I am in tears as well. :(

I will continue to pray that they all stay safe and return home.

By Trina on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 09:15 am:

I will also continue to pray for all the soldiers and families involved. May they return HOME safely.

Has anyone put yellow ribbons up?

By Semperspencer on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 11:41 am:

thank you to everyone for your continued support for our troops. it means so much to me to know that soldiers like my husband have so much love and support for them at home. i love my dh so much, he is such a sweetheart.

By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 12:24 pm:

Thank you all for your support for Amy, Mike, John, and me. This is one of the scariest things we will ever go through, and all I ask of my fellow Americans is that they remember this: No matter how you feel about the war, it is going on right now, and the men and women that are fighting it are someone's spouse, parent, child, etc. Regardless of your feelings on the war, hang a yellow ribbon, show your love and support for our troops.

Prayer for Our Troops

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hear our cries this day.
Keep our troops safe in your arms
And safely out of harms way.

Touch the families left behind,
Keep their hope alive.
Let your peace and loving grace
In their daily lives thrive.

Touch each soldier far from home,
Help them know you’re there.
Help them feel your warm embrace,
and remember that someone cares.

Remind us all each day, Dear Lord,
to say a little prayer.
That all of our loved ones will be safe
and soon be in our care.

Mike, and John, and your families, and the others who said they have family members going to Iraq: Thank-you! You are heroes. There are millions of us out here who really appreciate what you are doing. This may not be possible, but can I write to you? Or do you have any friends that I can write to? I'd love to send a card or greeting to anyone serving in the military, or their friends or family.
