http://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/skin-cancer-prevention We often worry about breast and cervical cancer, but rarely give thought that little mole. But that little beauty mark might actually be a first symptom of skin cancer, the most common form of cancer worldwide, affecting one in five Americans during their lifetime. More than two million people in the United States develop nonmelanoma skin cancers every year, says a study in the Archives of Dermatology. That’s more than 350 percent increase in skin cancer incidence since 1994, when rates were last estimated. Nearly 70,000 more are diagnosed with melanoma each year, according to the National Cancer Institute. Don’t be one of them. You can take huge steps to prevent developing skin cancer—and with little effort. Check out these top tips from the Skin Cancer Foundation: > Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths. > Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. > Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours. > Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.Examine your skin head-to-toe every month. > See your physician every year for a professional skin exam. I just had my body scan done last month by a Buffalo NY Dermatologist. ALL CLEAR!!!!
Not that we need these tips when its so cold & warnings of SNOW again! UGH!!!
My mom has skin cancer now. She is a nervous wreck. She is 82. I am so bad. I was like something is going to get you mom. Come out for Mothers day and enjoy yourself and stop worrying. She wants to stay home and rest instead. Oh well. Poor mom.
Im thinking of you n her now Feona.
You should actually use sunscreen, at least on your face, even when it's not sunny. The UV rays still come through.
I like clarins for the face. They make one with no oil in it. my face is too sensitive. I can't use moisturizer on it. 46 and I can't use moisturizer! Thanks. I have to call mom and see how she is doing.
Let us know Feona! Im thinking of her.
They finally sticked the lip up after a month or more. So now it will heal. The cancer didn't spread. So she can enjoy her summer (at the beach like she loves.) With sun screen. and big hats She is 82. It is a cold summer anyway. She will do what she likes (I hope) I just bought more of my sun screen for the car. Actually last time she had skin cancer they cut the lymp nodes under the arms so the cancer would not spread and cut tons out of her upper breast wall. ( a read hack job). She has a big huge freak arm from it. But no more cancer from that.
